Ten Thousand Buddhas Monastery - Hong Kong

Buddhism. The path to enlightenment, the understanding of human suffering.

You will undoubtedly understand human suffering after climbing these stairs.

At least you have an excuse to pause and examine each unique statue. There are actually 13,000 statues, not 10,000 so you're getting bonus Buddhas.

Even the monkeys are seeking enlightenment.

It gets even prettier at the top. The thousand-hand Bodhisattva is cast in gold.

And there are some other more delicate deities, especially these in glass.

I read somewhere that this tower is on Hong Kong currency.

I also read that this monastery is technically not a monastery as there are no monks living in the complex. Monastery or not, it's absolutely stunning. It's a bit of a hike from Central, but don't let the distance stop you.
