Ngong Ping Cable Car - Hong Kong

The trek to the Tian Tan Buddha is not cheap, but it's worth it.

Take the bus up the winding mountain road if you're feeling stingy, and the endless trails of stairs are free if you're feeling double-digit-miles-adventurous. I recommend neither - at least take the cable car one way if you’re strapped for cash.

The ride is long and breathtaking.

And lots of views of the mountains and valley.

Pay extra for the crystal if you wish. It’s not necessary but seeing the mountain and ocean under your feet does add the extra thrill.

It’s cold at the top, and the fog is rather present. Bring a jacket, a waterproof one if you can.

It's beautiful. The fog just makes it more magical, and when you make it up the mountain, you'll be glad you did it.
