Cafe Laurent - Culver City

Outdoor dining and BYOB. Magic letters and words that warm my soul. There's 5-dollar fee for a bottle of champagne, and 8 dollars buys a carafe of orange juice to mix a mean mimosa, meant to be sipped in the shade of a lovely backyard retreat.

The cafe is open only for breakfast and lunch, and the menu is a brunch-blend masterpiece. L'Atlantique is a perfect omelet, worth the extra for egg whites, balanced by a flawless mix of salty smoked salmon, sharp cilantro, and a touch of cream cheese.

The Steak Bearnaise is an 8-oz hit-the-spot steak with a creamy Bearnaise. Heavy cream hits hard during a hot, outdoor lunch, but it washes down with a sip of mimosa and a couple bites of side salad and fruit. It's not the most tender of steaks, but it's still a lunch a well-had.

The La Tango crepe is paper-thin and perfectly French, an eggy pancake that makes for light side or dessert. Nutella is a classic, but I do love my dulce de leche with ripe bananas.

Pop the cork, pour a couple of flutes, and voila! We are in France. Roaming the cobblestone streets of Avignon, perhaps, or conversing in a nouveau cafe in Aix-en-Provence. You soak in some sun and bask in the shade. You breathe in the fresh air in greedy gulps, and followed by a waterfall of self-made mimosa. There's something for everyone on the menu, just be sure to uber home after you eat.
