The Korean Mkt - Los Angeles

They replaced Seoul Sausage Company, and I can't wrap my brain around why. Seoul Sausage was the soul of Korean-inspired sausage, casual food you can always enjoy. The Korean Mkt has a promising menu, but in so many ways, that menu falls short.

The Rock n' Roe Bowl, for example, holds a lot of promise, but the execution is lacking. The wedges of brightly-colored, every-color roe are beautiful and exciting, but the roe-to-rice ratio is off. There's not enough roe to go around, and the result is bland rice with an occasional dot of roe. The uni in the middle isn't fresh, and they are out of ikura, which might have added a little more taste.

The Pork Belly and Kimchi Rice Bowl fares better thanks to the stronger flavors, but bland belly doesn't do the bowl any favors. Considering the savor-loaded sausages it replaced, this lackluster bowl is as unexpected as it is unpleasant.

The BibimBahn Mi is clever, and the sweet-sauced meat strikes a classic balance with the sweet n' sour pickled veggies. The baguette has a crispy crust as well.

I know The Korean Mkt is supposed to be the same people, but I miss Seoul Sausage sorely, and it'll take more than a halfway-decent sandwich to save this half-assed place.
