Culver Hotel - Culver City

Culver Hotel looks so intimidating from the front. A historic landmark with exhibits of classic collections from iconic films, the elegance can be pretty intimidating to a bruncher in booty shorts. In my defense, the shorts were on sale. And if the hostess was judging me, her perfect manners hid her disdain, and the service was pretty great.

I can't think of a better way to remedy the situation than a couple pitchers of bottomless mimosas. And the brunch part isn't terrible either. The Avocado Toast is nice and light, ripe avocado under a fried, runny egg, but you really have to double down to soak up the booze. A piece of bread and a bowl of fruit just doesn't cut it.

The Steak Frites will fill in when the toast doesn't. The medium rare is perfect at any level of sobriety, and the red wine gravy-like sauce is awesome. Dip the side of fries, and you get a side of poutine for free.

I usually hate hotel bars, but this one is hard to hate. Outdoor seating rocks, but it's just as cool to eat steak from a classy couch. Too bad Culver City is such a hike or I'd be boozing at every brunch!
