Lobster Guys Rolls & Fries - Redondo Beach

Finally, you can get a good lobster roll without having to chase a truck! Lobster Guys comes to Redondo Beach with their little shop of shellfish and fries.

Connecticut Style is the best style, a brioche bun stuffed full of warm, buttery lobster butter. They keep it simple, as it should be, with just mayo, green onion, and a sprinkle of old bay.

Maine Style is more like a salad. The lobster is chilled, and the lemon herb aioli comes on strong. There's more of it than I'd like, and I do think the brioche bun in both is also a bit overpowering to the more delicate lobster flavors as well. That said, it's quality lobster, no complaints about that.

I know it's a lobster joint, but they do Wings quite well. Fried crispy on the outside, evenly coated with a sticky sweet chili sauce, these will complete any pint of beer.

The Fries are just fries, but they're the kind with the super crispy shell, and whatever, they're good.

Not cheap but prices are fair considering it's lobster in this location. I'd come back in a heartbeat for a Connecticut roll next time I want a treat.

Cousins Maine Lobster - Los Angeles

Is there anything better than a toasted bun full of warm, fresh lobster in buttah?

Yes. A FREE toasted bun full of warm, fresh lobster in buttah as a thank you for fighting Covid from the frontlines. It's all juicy claw meat, and it's the freshest claw meat there is.

We don't get a lot of freebies in my line of work because down with big pharma and whatever, but we do get Doctor's Day, and the Cousins truck made this one of the best. I don't know where they usually park, but I will very soon because their Connecticut Roll has made me a truck chaser!

BatterFish Food Truck - Los Angeles

I don't always see eye to eye with the famed Food Network, and we'll have to agree to disagree about several aspects of BatterFish.

First of all, why was it even featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives?!?! It is none of those things, and it is absolutely ridiculous to consider their now-legendary Lobster Roll to be not high-end.

But here is where our disagreement ends. Guy is right on the money; "If you can make a living off a fish and chips truck in a town like Los Angeles, you must be doing it right." The lobster is so impossibly succulent, so tear-jerking tender, and the shrimp, which I initially dismissed as a profit-margin filler, is as perfect as the lobster, if not better. I've truly never had such perfect shrimp; they touched my tongue and melted away like the sweetest seafood whisper.

I don't regret a penny of the first 12 dollars I spent, but I do feel that 16 is a bit steep for a lobster roll that isn't all lobster. Then again, that kind of quality can't come cheap, and my wallet and I have no regrets. I would do this again. And again and again.

First Friday - Venice - Roll'n Lobster Truck

I strongly advise against catching your seafood...as if falls off the back of a truck. But if it falls off the side of a food truck...well...roll the dice.

Rolln' Lobster turned out to be a pretty good gamble actually. The Crab Cakes are more crab and way less breading than expected. A bit too heavy on the oil, but deep fried snow crab gets very few complaints.

The Lobster Sliders were stuffed to bursting with a considerable amount of cold, fresh chunks of lobster. On Hawaiian sweet rolls. Genius.

Thumbs up again!

Lobster at the Clam Shack – Wells, Maine

If I could pick a blind date for a lovely Maine wedding where I knew no one, including the bride and groom, I’d pick Adam every time. If I could pick a place to have a delectable Maine lobster roll, I’d pick the Clam Shack every time.

The Clam Shack is a cute, nondescript…well…shack…a homey wooden food stand that houses a brilliant kitchen that serves up a whole lobster between two slices of toasted hamburger bun. Wish I had more time in Wells – I would have tried a few other goodies on the menu – clam cakes, fried clams, yumyumyum, etc.

My only gripe is that there salt on the lobster is non-existent, and the savory butter doesn’t really remedy that. That being said, it may serve me right for skipping the mayo. In my defense, I didn’t want the mayo to drown out the lobster...

A word of caution: while you’re gobbling up your fresh lobster by the water, watch out for the seagulls – they perch right above you, poised to snatch the lobster out of your eagerly cupped hands. They left me alone though – they could probably sense that I would actually kill for lobster…

If you’re ever in Wells, Maine, make it a point to stop by the Clam Shack. I did. TWICE. In the same day. There is always room for lobster. If you still need convincing, (though I'm not sure how that's possible if you've read this post), their t-shirts make good tangible souvenirs, and their lobster rolls make lasting memories.
