Zozo's Ristorante - Reno, NV

Cutest. Restaurant. EVER. Cutest checkered tablecloths, sweetest staff, and an experience so personalized that the owners are often at the next table over.

There's Minestrone Soup if you'd rather skip the house or Cesar salad. The soup is a light little vegetable prequel that reveals nothing. You sit down in this hole-in-the-wall in some generic shopping center, and you literally have no idea what's coming.

They hit you in the face and beat you over the head with their entrees...in the most pleasurable way imaginable. The Deep Ocean Crab Melt is a brick of an open-face sandwich, squares of faithful foccacia loaded with so much shredded crab and a winter coat of Gruyere and Havarti. The ripe avocados goo's right into that crab-and-cheese mattress.

It's a heck of a sandwich, but there's no need to order anything else, ever again, once you try the Cioppino. What fresh clams, what buttery mussels! The prawns are plump, the scallops so supple, and there are these chunks of salmon where the fat has melted between the cracks, and each bite is a buttery, dissolving paradise. And just when you think it can't get better, you realize that every bit of seafood is saturated with an incredible tomato stew. The herbs assert themselves, shining through this unforgettable sauce, over a fantastic bed of spaghetti.

Game over. I've never had anything like that cioppino. Truly remarkable - the restaurant could run for centuries on this signature dish alone!
