BFF Trip - Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK - Day 12

Our first and only full day in the West Midlands.

There's a light rain requiring hoods or umbrellas, but it doesn't make us enjoy the birthplace of William Shakespeare any less.

The museum portion is brief, with several interesting exhibits including many likenesses of him

and associated works such as this original folio.

The cottage he was born in is considered rather luxurious for the time - his father merged it with the one next door, and the upstairs seems quite spacious.

This was William's childhood room.

This is the bed he was born in. Hopefully it's been cleaned since then...

There is a monument of him as well, gifted to the city by a man named Gower.

He sits regally in a lofty chair, surrounded by characters from his four major themes: history, tragedy, comedy, philosophy.

We move on to his final resting place in the Church of the Holy Trinity. It's a stunning stain glass window under which he rests.

And his grave is meticulously marked, sheltered from the elements, honored at the high altar.

I loved this day. It's a theme-day, and I know it's cheesy, but walking the footsteps of the greatest writer who ever lived from birth to death just feeds my inner nerd. From birth to life to death, we saw all the stages of Shakespeare; the history, the philosophy, the comedy, the final tragedy.
