Haru Sushi - Torrance

Things that shouldn't be half off:
1. Breast implants.
2. Parachutes.
3. Sushi.

In Haru's defense, their sushi isn't really half off. It's their full price, but it's only half the price of any other sushi.

With half price comes full risk. Raw fish can be quite the gastrointestinal adventure, so classic Caterpillar Roll is a smart start. The eel is sweet and the avocado is soft and ripe, and the entire roll is cooked. The Alaska Roll was a gamble, but the smooth salmon on spicy tuna was hardly a mistake. The cuts are crude, but they're thick and generous, and the spicy tuna has a kick without being overwhelmingly doused in Sriracha.

I got more adventurous with the Rainbow Roll. Four kinds of fresh fish? Impressive variety for a sushi stall.

The Spider Roll is impossible to eat, but there is a full and fully fried crab stuffed inside. You can get full off a single piece of a rice ball-sized slice so spider is a steal. The Double Shrimp Roll isn't exactly authentic, but it's a warm, crispy guilty pleasure.

The Haedupbap is the bibimbap of sushi, and the surprisingly sizeable ratio of sashimi with lettuce and rice goes good with gochujang. A full, wholesome meal for the price of a roll makes this bowl the best deal yet.

Cheap sushi. Now THAT is what living in the wild side looks like. I haven't felt this adventurous since...well...I'm just not that adventurous. Haru isn't the best sushi in town, but even Mitsuwa can't beat $5.49 per roll.
