Montmartre - Torrance

\

That Pudding Truck got me hooked on sugar-high.

But Montmartre isn't the place to get that kind of fix. The desserts are a little more subtle and a lot less sweet. The Melon Pan is a shout-out to simplicity, a basic, brioche-like bun with a lighter version of pineapple crust on top.

The Orange Cream Pan actually has no orange or cream inside, but the glaze makes an elegant, fruity statement and adds all the flavor this fluffy sweet-bread needs.

The Green Tea Madeleine is a gaping culture-gap, a light, buttery French coffeecake lost in translation. Here the green tea seems to be a substitute for butter, forming a Madeleine-shaped fruitcake, and that just isn't right.

I can only describe the Green Tea Parisienne as a macaron on steroids. Puffy and just the slightest big fluffy, with a denser, more-cake-than-meringue center sandwiching a grainy ganache.

Great bakery. Bare-bones and too simple to make a splash, sweet but only just sweet enough. Balance and restraint pan out nicely, but you have to be in the mood. Montmartre Menu, Reviews, Photos, Location and Info - Zomato
