Tai Pan Dim Sum - Honolulu

The sweetest most adorable lady raised one of my sweetest, most adorable friends, and that lady works at Tai Pan. My review won't be very unbiased, but Tai Pan did make all my favorites well.

The Shrimp Hargow came in a pretty sturdy crystal wrapper, maintained a respectable shrimp-to-wrapper ratio, and didn't immediately break apart under my clumsy chopstick skills. The Pork Buns were puffy and fluffy, filled with sweet red pork-lets, and the Pork Shumai were rich and dense.

The Shrimp Rice Noodles stay chewy, maintaining a better texture than most I've had.

The Soup Dumplings aren't exactly Din Tai Fung, but the gingery soup inside will sit just fine.

The Steamed Yu Choy and thick Turnip Cakes are lighter, and the contrasting tastes and textures gave us just enough room for the red bean Sesame Ball dessert.

Asian brunch is the best brunch, and Tai Pan is a great place to start. Just take it easy on the fried stuff lest you fall right back asleep. Then again, is there any food coma more blissful than one from dim sum?
