I live two blocks away from a top three Torrance gastropub. English beer with fantastic food for pairing, Yorkshire Square has made a formidable footprint in a prominent part of town.
Try every beer and leave no ale unturned. They range from punchy pale ales to breathy blondes and solid stouts. Share a flight for tasting, then commit to the ones you love.
Start your stomach right with a bite into a substantial Scotch Egg. It's a better breakfast sandwich of egg with a pretty pork sausage, seasoned to salty perfection, juicy-moist inside a deep-fried breading.
Crunch on some Peely Blinders to get your share of starch. No need to order extra - you get a proper handful with the scotch egg.
Slip in some Pub Sliders if you just want a good burger. They do a right patty on a sweet and fluffy bun, and they drip a creamy sauce.
I think they stopped making the Curry, but I wish they did not. A warm bowl of chunky-chicken comfort-soup smothers a bed of rice.
My personal favorite is still Bangers & Mash. The bangers are soft and mild with a breeze of beer from an assertive gravy, and they wash down so well with more beer. The minty peas are my obsession, said by the girl who hates peas with a passion.
So maybe it's a toss-up between bangers and Fish & Chips. The fish is a gorgeous, golden fry, and the proper chips are perfection.
Beer is their main attraction, but I can't say it's their best. The food ties for first place - they're the absolute definition of a gastropub, and once you pop into this pub, you'll never be able to stop.
