Their signature Chicken and Rice comes wrapped in just paper, and a charmingly simple package. The chicken is perfectly tender, and the soy-based dipping sauce has notes of ginger and a spectacular sharp sting from freshly-chopped garlic. The rice is super savory from chicken fat, a show-stealer for sure.
It comes with a side of chicken soup, and this one has a nice, clear, comfort-food flavor.
Tofu Peanut is another option if you don’t eat meat. The peanut sauce is smooth and sweet, and the side of broccoli is steamed just enough.
Small sides of Fried Chicken Skins and Chicken Liver are worth getting. The skins are so crispy and chicken-y and the liver melts in your mouth.
If I am to be entirely honest, I don’t care for Hainan chicken, and this chicken was no less bland than the rest. If you do like Hainan chicken, their version is exactly right, but still prefer the skin-on, full-flavored variation from LA’s Little Fatty.
